Most of the other companies selling winches make theirs so that they can mount to any hitch, as do we. The difference? 90% of those companies make it so that the winch mounts long ways meaning that the line pulls straight off the back of the vehicle so that you can ride if you were to back up to a pond or something of that nature. Not a bad idea but try ours on for size. EVERY Ridiculous Winch is manufactured with a 2.5" piece of square tubing predrilled for a 5/8" pin along with a 1/2" nut welded to the bottom which gets a set screw to tighten up the slack in the event of towing. Our hitch kit is sold seperately and the buyer has the option of standard 5/8" pins or locking 5/8" pins (see our products page). Our winch however mounts sideways on the hitch. Here is the reason why. Hours and hours went into research and development so that our steel frame design could enable the rider to have the best of ALL worlds!

Other winches mount straight off the back of the hitch and allow you to ride right to the vehicle.  Imagine forgetting to throttle down and denting that tailgate or fender with the handle or someone who's inexperienced meeting that tailgate or vehicle head on.  Those winches tend to be heavy and are not very mobile (i.e. wheels, handles, stakes to hold it in the ground, etc.) Some companies' winches weigh over 200 pounds while others charge an extra few hundred dollars just to add wheels. How mobile does that sound? The RIDICULOUS WINCH is designed with the intentions of easily removing it from the hitch mount every time you want to ride. Not only does it come with gripped handles for toting but also air-filled sand tires with bearings, and as if that doesn't sound portable enough, it ALSO comes with 2 stakes that slide through the custom waterjetted brackets on the rear legs (along-side the tires) to hold the rear of the machine steady in the ground.  The stake kit includes a 12" piece of round tubing to help turn them into the ground.

90% of the winches available are really not intended to be put out in the open, whether that be at the edge of a lake or just up from where the waves are breaking onto the sand. And standing on the back of a winch is just unacceptable. When it comes to staying steady, RIDICULOUS WINCHES may as well be cemented into the ground. The frame design is beautiful in that the front legs are on a 45 degree angle allowing them to dig in and bottom out at the horizontal 2" square crossmember. That takes care of the front, and the rear mounts with the stake kit which is included with every winch sold.
